BMI Calculator
What does the BMI calculator do? It calculates body mass index from your height and weight and returns the standard World Health Organization category — underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obesity. Body mass index is a widely used screening measure that relates weight to height across populations; it is not a diagnosis of an individual's health.
Why can a BMI result mislead?
BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat, account for bone density, or reflect where weight is carried. Athletes and older adults in particular can get misleading readings — a muscular person can score 'overweight' with low body fat, and an older adult can score 'normal' while carrying risk the number misses.
What should you do with your result?
Treat it as one data point among many, alongside waist measurements, activity levels, and how you actually feel. If your result surprises you, or you are considering significant lifestyle changes, discuss it with a doctor or qualified health professional who can interpret it in the context of your full health picture.
